mommy and baby moose

Filed under: Alaska, Animals, Awww posts, Mom and Baby, Moose — Cindy @ 10:45 pm

A friend sent me this, sent to him from a friend who lives in Alaska.  What a sweet baby.   I would love to live in an area that had such animal nature so close to me.  I see rabbit, squirrels, chipmunks, various birds, occasionally an opposum or raccoon, but no big animals.  When I lived farther out in the country I would see deer and pheasants too.

In my 33 years in Alaska I have never seen a new born baby moose. This one was not even a half a mile from our house. The mother picked a small quiet neighbor and had her baby in the front yard at 5:30 am. Allen and I were out bike riding when we came upon the pair. The lady across the street from this house told us she saw it being born. We saw them at 5:30 pm. So the little one was 12 hours old. What an awesome place we live in to see such a site.

  1. I have seen Moose out in the wilds of Maine. However, always at a distance. It is a wonder that mother appeared so calm with people taking pictures etc. Pretty neat to be able to have these pictures to look at and remember seeing these wonderful animals.

  2. I have enjoyed watching the moose in Algonquin park and have never seen one this young. Does anyone know how I could get permission to paint this one? I am not a professional artist and I work mostly in watercolours.

  3. Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m sorry I do not know the original poster or I’d contact them for you. Are you looking to paint the moose in real life, or from a picture?

  4. I had a funny experience with this post. I received it with a different location and the people’s names were changed too but the same e-mail text. The pictures are prety neat but it struck me as odd. Great site, I laughed out loud at the cat adopting the baby skunks.
    Cheers,
    Steve

  5. Thanks for stopping by, Steve. I’m glad you got a laugh at the little stinkers. I, too, have gotten emails in the past with duplicate content but different identification. I guess that is how Internet fallacies build. I do try to give credit and identify original posters, or say where I got information from whenever I can. I also check Snopes.com to verify many posts before I pass them on. I’ve not been able to learn anything more about this post but I do like the pictures. I hope you come back again.
